May 21, 2005 ... What a great day for a ride. Light wind, sunshine, good company, great roads and picturesque views. 13 riders made this 90 mile route of eastern Osage county. Dan Mitchell - Chanute - DRZ400, Craig Roth - Mcpherson - KLR650, Jeff Ippel - Overland Park - KLR650, Max Gado - Lees Summit, MO - KTM LC4, Terry Fleming - Tecumseh - KTMRXC620, Andy Landis - Topeka - KLR, Dan Hulsing - Topeka - XR600, Duane Buck - Lawrence - IT250, Dennis Gowing - Lecompton - 250 Super Sherpa, Eric Rickel - Vassar - KLR650, Larry McGillivary - Manhattan - Vstrom 650, David Hemphill - Lawrence - Suzuki DR650, and Jim Doyle (JD) - Overbrook - DR650. The course started from "4 corners" (US56/US75) and took riders on a variety of challenging low maintenance roads, scenic byways along river and creek wooded valleys, and rolling grasslands of Osage County, KS. We finished at the Green Acres Restaurant (K-268) south of the Pomona Lake dam with a great meal and fellowship. No one got hurt, no flats, no maintenance issues, and this group did a VERY good job of watching for others. Consequently, everybody who started the ride finished with the group! Everybody got a little muddy and some got very muddy, but I think everyone left with a smile and that is really what motorcycling is supposed to be about. Enjoy the pics, thanks for riding with me, and next year we'll ride the west county loop ... JD Click on a thumbnail to view a larger image.
