Backroads Touring - Rider Meeting, Nov. 7, 2009

November 7, 2009 ... Hospitality House in Emporia, KS and the Flint Hills of Chase County.

Fifteen group members gathered for an annual rider meeting in Emporia to discuss the upcoming year and the 2010 Stampede. Making the meeting were: Michael Farmer - Emporia - " Dirt Farmer", Greg Mitchell - Emporia - "T-Bone", Bob Morgan - Topeka, Gary Miller - Edmond, OK - "Snowball", RD Woolsey - Derby - "kaws4cute", Richard Prose - Emporia, Mike Bright - Chanute - "Kingrider", Rod Keen - Clay Center - "radiocowboy", Larry & Phyllis Ostrom - Concordia - "Big O", Jim Foley - Shawnee - "Mr. Wizard", Jamie Buster - Overland Park - "rabid wombat", Steve Starkel - Bel Aire - "Ste610ve", Ken Clifford - Wichita, David Hemphill - Lawrence, and Roger Baugh - Wichita - "Mr. Clean".

We enjoyed a breakfast buffet to start the morning, and shared photo albums and stories of past rides. The primary topic of the day was the 2010 Stampede. A steering committee has been formed, and consists of: Eddie McLiney, Ken Clifford, Mike Farmer, Bob Morgan, RD Woolsey, Phil Denk, and Roger Baugh. A private forum has been established on the bulletin board for planning purposes.

Following the meeting, two groups headed out for some backroads riding, with a rendezvous at a potential Stampede site location ... Camp Wood YMCA near Elmdale, KS. We were treated to a full-blown tour of the facilities, which were quite impressive. The group led by Greg Mitchell proceeded on to Clements, Coyne Creek and points deeper into the outback, while the Wichita-based riders headed back to Wichita by more direct means.
