We lost a founding member of our community last month ... David Hemphill of Lawrence, KS.

David, far left, taking a break with fellow riders in 2006.

http://obituaries.ljworld.com/obituaries/ljworld/obituary.aspx?n=david-hemphill&pid=183645985&fhid=24990

David was an original ride leader of BTKS group rides, and a grand fellow to ride and socialize with.

Back when we were a small group, we gave each other handles to go by. David's was "Flasher". It reminded us of following him.

RIP, my friend .....

This is really sad. I met David on so many rides here with BTK. He was an excellent rider and a great guy to just hang with and socialize with. He had a great sense of humor. He will be missed-RIP David!

Thoughts and prayers for Dave's family. Like myself, many who came to the group later always saw Dave as a source of knowledge and encouragement. None who knew him will forget his laid back personality and sense of humor.

I particularly remember one of Larry O's Pie Rides. We took of on a foggy morning struggling with poor vision and sketchy traction. All the while Dave is following along quite casually on his huge Gold Wing as if it were a perfect day.

He will truly be missed...............................

Oh no! Prayers go out to his friends and family who loved him! Last time I met Dave was in Arkansas, randomly at a gas station and he offered me to join him to show me around. He was such a great guy!

The few times I rode with him and talked with him I always enjoyed his company. He was a very happy and laid back guy.
You will be missed!

David and I shared a room in Council Grove for a Stampede one year.

And I was in on the Goldwing pie ride, it seemed casual to him to ride his Goldwing down those rocky roads.

He was a swell man to be around!!

May God meet the greatest need of his loved ones!

Take care, RD

I just signed in for the first time in several months to see if Uncle Dave had posted anything about the Hillbilly Ride.

Taken Back a bit, and Very Sad. I'll miss my good friend.

I've ridden with Dave in several states, and always had a fun time. To say he was a character would be an understatement.

A few memories from my archives................

Dave is wearing the Pizza Hut Box Hat.

My last Hillbilly Ride 2014.

God Speed Uncle Dave. Pray
