The real success of the Stampede comes from the folks who volunteer their time to help out leading the rides, organize the events, solicit sponsors to contribute door prizes, etc.

What we are needing in the way of help:

1.) 2-3 additional Ride Leaders. If we can keep our group rides to a dozen riders or less per group, they'll be much easier to manage ... and each group will be able to cover their routes with fewer delays. It is preferred that Ride Leaders have led a group ride in the past (or will lead at least one ride prior to the Stampede), and are well familiar with our group's procedures and safety practices.

2.) We need moderators to teach at the Friday evening seminars. Field Repairs, Ride Preparation, GPS Usage, Technical Riding Tips (there's an ORV park nearby), are just a few possible topics.

3.) We need to get more dealerships involved ... and recognized as sponsors. If you'll look at previous Stampede pages, you'll see who has supported us in the past. It's fairly easy .... print out a flyer and see if your local dealer will display it. A dealer here in Wichita has told me that our group has helped him sell quite a few dualsport bikes through the years ... so the next step of asking for some goodies was quite easy. He was more than happy to provide us with some nice door prizes. If you have any questions about how to go about it ... just e-mail or PM me.

On any of the above items, if you're interested in volunteering .... just e-mail or PM me, and I'll help you get situated.

Thanks, R Cool ger

Go to the Stampede page: http://www.backroadstouring.org/kansas/stamp_09.mgi Scroll down to the 'registration download' link. Download the PDF. Page one is the flyer.

Looking at the incoming registrations, am seeing that there may be a need for an additional ride leader or two to lead an Intermediate Ride patrol. If you're interested in volunteering as ride leader, just indicate here and I'll get you into the loop.

Seminar Moderators ... I'm going to start a new thread to see if anyone is interested in joining-in on a photography seminar early Friday evening.

If you wish to head-up a seminar topic such as: field repairs, GPS usage, etc., please feel free to get a discussion thread started in this forum.

Best, R Cool ger

Here's something where all event participants can help out .... if you're on other bulletin boards, blogs, have ride buddies' e-mail addresses, etc. ..... point others to our event. Here's the URL, just copy and paste into your message/posting:

http://www.backroadstouring.org/kansas/stamp_09.mgi

I've gone ahead and added the event to the 'advrider.com' event calendar .... so that base is now covered.

As of today, there are still openings for 1-2 Intermediate Ride Leaders .... it looks like we're in good shape for the advanced and scenic rides.

If you wish to volunteer to lead ... or have any questions about what is involved, please PM or e-mail me and I'll get you the information you need.

Also .... if anyone interested in moderating a discussion/demo group for Friday evening, please contact me. So far, there will be a photography seminar ... and it would be great to be able to offer several seminar options to the attendees.

Thanks for the help ....

Best, R Cool ger

If I could be sent an intermediate route (for my GPS) I'll check it out. If I feel comfortable with it I'll lead a group.

Hi Eddie ....

Would you be interested in running north into Wabaunsee Co or south into Chase & Greenwood Cos.? I have several PDF routes (with GPS reference points) for both ... or can create a custom route for you depending on where you want to go.

I have taken groups south. I know that area pretty well and is a very scenic area but not advanced (unless going at a much quicker pace.) I'm interested in riding the advanced roads north. That is an area I am not very familiar. I have done some but not as much as south.

Eddie,
I have a route planned out that I was going to lead up through Wabaunsee, Lyon and Osage Counties that measures out to about 155 miles. If you like I'll let you take a look at it and if your comfortable with it your welcome to use it and I'll use my backup route that goes South and East. Perhaps when it warms up and I get my release from the Dr. (had rotator cuff surgery in December) we can go pre run it. Let me know what you think.

Glen, that sounds great. We can do that same route in opposite directions. Let me know when you can go and let's meet and do some riding.

Still not comforatable as a leader (soon maybe), but will be glad to help out as tail rider or some other way. If I had the route on GPS could maybe ride middle to split a group into two smaller. With GPS and tire tracks to follow.

Have read where Phil Denk and Ken Clifford have managed to procure us some sponsorships and door prizes. The Stampede flyer with my cover letter is going out to Wichita dealerships today, and I'll be following up with them personally in the next week or two. Last year, we received door prizes from Motorsports Honda/Kawasaki and Mid America Powersports in Wichita, so am hoping they'll repeat.

Anyone else have anything to report?

Thanks, R Cool ger

RB,

Do you send anything to the dealers in Salina? The Suzuki shop as received alot of business from my family in regards to dual sporting. Both my bike and my dad's DR650 were purchased there and we have gone there for parts/fluids etc....

I could take something buy sometime if you would need me to.
